Barre, VT: Following the tremendous success of the inaugural Granite City 100 on Sunday, May 29th, Thunder Road and Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series officials are excited to announce that the Modifieds will return for the 60th Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic weekend on Sunday, May 28th, 2023. Highlighted by rip-roaring speeds as drivers drafted and fought for every position with three of the top Modified drivers in the East left standing in victory lane, the Granite City 100 proved to be one of the biggest racing events in the Northeast this season.
“We’ve been building a great relationship with the Monaco Modified Tri-Track folks for some time down at Thompson Speedway,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “We finally made it work for them to come to Thunder Road and the outcome could not have been greater. From all ends, the fans, teams, officials, we received so many positive comments it was just common sense to have them back again in 2023.”
“We’re planning on making our 60th Memorial Day Classic one for the ages, and having the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series back at Thunder Road is an integral part of that plan.”
In their inaugural visit to Thunder Road, the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series helped pack grandstands and seating areas that now surround the speedbowl from the exit of turn two to the entrance to turn one. Along with Sunday’s stellar crowd, Saturday festivities that included the 802 Cornhole Tournament to benefit the Race to Read Literacy Program with live music from Native Tongue in the pavilion also proved successful.
The 2023 Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic will include the 2nd annual Granite City 100 for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series and the 60th Memorial Day Classic for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models. Further information on divisional line-ups and additional activities will be released in the coming months.
