THOMPSON, CT (April 11, 2026) – The 2026 Monaco Modified Series season roared to life Saturday at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, and it was Jonathan McKennedy who stood tall in Sign Pro Victory Lane, capturing the $10,000-to-win Propane Plus Heating & Cooling 75.

In front of a packed Icebreaker crowd, and battling a stacked 31-car field loaded with talent from across the Northeast, defending Series Champion McKennedy powered his way to the front and controlled the race when it mattered most, earning a statement win to kick off the nine-race season.

The 52nd annual Icebreaker once again delivered the intensity fans expect, with tight racing throughout the field and drivers battling hard for position on the historic Thompson oval. As the laps wound down, McKennedy held off a hard-charging Michael Christopher Jr. in the closing stages to secure the victory. Patrick Emerling, Jake Johnson, and Ronnie Williams rounded out the top five after a hard-fought 75 laps.

“This is a huge way to start the season,” said McKennedy. “The competition here is as tough as it gets, and to come out on top at Thompson means a lot for our whole team.”

Saturday’s event marked the first of nine races on the 2026 Monaco Modified Series schedule—and the opening chapter in the chase for a new $50,000 championship point fund, sponsored by USNEPower and Union Insurance Group. The program also features a special $2,000 USNEPower Energizer Zone Bonus, awarded to the team that spends the most weeks in the top five of the series point standings throughout the season.

Also debuting at Thompson was the Monaco Modified Kids’ Club presented by Mr. Rooter, which was open on the midway and drew a strong turnout of young fans and families. With over 100 kids registered, members picked up their Membership Starter Packs and special checkered flag giveaways, enjoyed fun games and activities, and added a new level of energy to race day.

“This was exactly the kind of kickoff we were looking for,” said series owner Renee Dupuis. “A full field, competitive racing, and a great crowd—it sets the tone for a big season ahead.”

The Monaco Modified Series now turns its focus to Round 2 at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday, May 23, where drivers will continue their pursuit of the championship – and their share of the richest point fund in series history.
